Ethiopian e-Visa

You apply, pay and receive your visa online, all on a single web page. Once your application is approved, you will receive an email authorising you to travel to Ethiopia. Your passport is stamped with the visa on arrival in Addis Ababa.

What you need to know

• Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you intend to enter Ethiopia.

• You must enter via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. E-visas are not accepted at other ports of entry.

• The visa is valid from your intended date of entry, not from the date it is issued.

• Application fees are non-refundable.

• Read the instructions at each step of the application form carefully.

Who can apply?
You can apply if you are a national of, or hold a permanent residence permit in, one of the eligible countries listed at evisa.gov.et. If you are applying on the basis of a residence permit, you must upload valid documentation of it.

Processing time

Normal processing takes a few working days, but it can take longer. Apply well before departure — at least two weeks is recommended.

Duration and validity
 

The single-entry tourist visa allows a stay of 30 or 90 days. You may not remain in Ethiopia beyond the validity of your visa. Extensions must be applied for before the visa expires.

 

Fees
See current fees at evisa.gov.et. Payment is made online.

 

Visa on arrival
Do not rely on this. Practice varies, and travellers without an approved e-visa risk being denied boarding or entry. Apply online before you travel.
